How To Safely Clean Your Blinds

Now that you have beautiful blinds installed thorough out your home, you may be wondering how to keep them clean and free of dust.  There are different methods of cleaning depending on the type of blind you have installed, and several things that need to be considered. While this may seem like a daunting task, using our tips and tricks below will help you maintain beautiful clean blinds.

Wood Blinds

Wood blinds are treated with a finish that minimizes dirt and repels stains, so cleaning this type of window treatment is the least daunting.
DO – Use a dusting mitt, vacuum attachment, or even an old sock to remove dirt and dust from your wood blinds.
DO – Use a solution made of vinegar and water to remove stubborn dirt or other materials that may have collected on your blinds. You may also use wood polish to restore the blinds shine.
DON’T – Use abrasive cleaners or chemicals when cleaning your wood blinds.
DON’T – Spray cleaner meant for windows on blinds. Its recommended to raise blinds and spray cleaner on window directly to avoid getting hard cleanser on your blinds.

Faux Wood Blinds

Faux wood blinds are easier to clean than real wood blinds because they do not require the extra step pf using polish to restore the shine.
DO – Wipe with a dryer sheet to help repel dust.
DO – Use your vacuum’s brush attachment to help eliminate dust.
DON’T – Get your vacuum attachment to close to the drawstring.
DON’T – Use harsh chemicals, ammonia, or abrasive chemicals and cleaners.

Cellular Blinds

Cellular blinds are a beautiful alternative to standard slatted blinds, and are a fairly easy option when it comes to cleaning.
DO – Lightly dust using a duster.
DO – Remove and shake out to get more dirt and dust out.
DON’T – Use liquid cleaners.
