1. Welch's Point and Virgin Falls
Peppered with 3 waterfalls, Caney Fork River, Scott's Gulf, swimming holes, and numerous campsites, this 9-mile trail can provide you with hours of entertainment day and night. Whether you complete the entire hike in one day or take a day or two to enjoy all this trail has to offer, when you reach the end of the trail you will find the Virgin Falls boasting a 110 foot drop.
2. Fiery Gizzard Trail
Named one of the top 25 hiking trails in the country by Backpacker Magazine, Fiery Gizzard Trail is 12.5 miles long beginning in Grundy Forest. While the hike can be a bit arduous at times, once you reach the end you will be rewarded with beautiful views of Foster Falls.
3. Volunteer Trail
11 miles in length, the Volunteer Trail leads to the scenic Percy Priest Lake. The majority of the trail is fairly easy hiking, but there are some strenuous areas that can pose a bit of a challenge.
4. Prentice Cooper State Forest
Prentice Cooper State Forest is a hub of hiking trails of all levels. There are so many trails in this 6,600 acre park you will need a few weekends to complete them all. With varying levels of difficulty, everyone can find a trail that suits their skill level. If you are up for the challenge, try out one of the over 30 mile trails, simple campsites along the way provide a place to rest for the evening.
5. Walls of Jericho
The Walls of Jericho until recently were located on private property and, thus, inaccessible to the general public. Now that it is managed by the Tennessee Wildlife Association, hikers have access to over 8,900 acres. Expert hikers who are brave enough to tackle the six-hour hike down to the gorge will be rewarded with spectacular views of a natural rock amphitheater.
6. Savage Gulf
The 100 ft suspension bridge that crosses the Collins River in Savage Gulf Recreation Area isn't for the faint of heart, but if you can get across it you will find excellent hiking with breath-taking views. With varying lengths and difficult levels, there is something for hikers of all skill levels from novice to expert.
