Haven SmartWood Shutters

Haven SmartWood Shutters

Our faux wood shutter option. Built for long-term performance in high humidty areas. Installed by experts.

Before you buy faux wood shutters, you should focus on the details that decide how they look and perform for years, and that’s exactly what we build around. We use solid construction, not hollow frames, so your shutters stay straighter and feel stronger, especially on larger openings where lighter builds can sag over time. We recommend faux wood when it is the smartest choice for your home because moisture resistance matters in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms where humidity can create problems for natural wood. We also spec shutters that are built to handle heat and sun in bright windows, which helps reduce the long-term risk of warping or discoloration. Cleaning should be simple, so we choose faux wood that can handle a quick wipe-down when you need a deeper clean. Most importantly, we protect the final result by measuring and installing everything the right way, because fit is everything, and accurate measurements plus professional installation reduce gaps, rubbing, and uneven frames so your shutters operate smoothly and look finished from day one.

Designed for everyday living

Real wood shutters are not just about appearance. They are designed to solve daily problems like glare, inconsistent light, privacy concerns, and temperature swings near windows. Basswood’s natural insulating properties help reduce heat transfer, while adjustable louvers give you precise control over how much light enters each room throughout the day. This combination of function and form is why shutters are often chosen for primary living spaces, bedrooms, and front-facing windows.

FAQs

Yes. Bathrooms are the #1 room where faux wood makes sense because humidity is constant. Real wood is porous, so it can swell, warp, or chip in high-humidity spaces over time. Faux wood and composite shutters are commonly chosen for bathrooms because they resist moisture and warping better than wood, and they stay easier to maintain.

We recommend faux wood when you want a shutter that holds its shape, stays smooth to operate, and does not need special care in a steamy room. We also measure for the room conditions so you get a tight, clean fit that still opens and closes easily.

They can if you buy low-grade materials. Heat builds up fast at the glass, especially on south- and west-facing windows. Quality composite systems are engineered to stay dimensionally stable and resist warping, twisting, and cupping. Many also use UV inhibitors to help protect the finish and reduce fading risk.

We design around your window exposure. If your room gets hard afternoon sun, we build the layout and material choice to handle it so your shutters keep their alignment and still close cleanly season after season.

Some do. Yellowing is usually a sign of lower-grade material or a finish that was not built for UV exposure. Better shutter finishes use multiple protective layers and UV protectants designed to help the color stay stable over time.

We focus on long-term color stability because a shutter should look the same next year as it does on install day. If a room gets heavy sun, we factor that in up front instead of guessing later.

One reason homeowners choose shutters is because they want something simple to live with. Real wood shutters require very little maintenance beyond regular dusting. There are no cords to replace, fabrics to clean, or mechanisms that wear out quickly. As long as shutters are kept dry and cleaned gently, they maintain their appearance and function well. Compared to many other window treatments, real wood shutters are one of the lowest-maintenance long-term options available.

People use these terms interchangeably, but they are not always the same product. “Faux wood” often refers to a composite or engineered material designed to look like painted wood. “Composite” usually means blended materials with a hard outer finish for durability and moisture resistance. Vinyl or PVC shutters can be very moisture resistant, but some vinyl options are hollow polyresin builds, and construction quality can vary a lot by brand.

We help you choose based on how you actually live in the room. Humidity, sun exposure, window size, and daily use matter more than the label.

Price depends on window size, panel layout, frame style, and installation. National cost guides typically put faux wood/composite shutters below hardwood, with ranges often shown around $500–$600 per window or similar, depending on the source and scope. Installation pricing can also vary by home

We keep pricing straightforward by measuring your actual openings, building the right layout, and quoting the full project based on your home, not a generic online calculator.
