Fun, Cheap Things to Do Around Tampa

Touring Tampa doesn't have to be hard on your wallet. We've compiled a list of fun things to do around Tampa that are low in cost but high in fun.

1. The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg

Only a 30-minute drive from downtown Tampa, the Dali Museum features one of the largest collections of paintings by surrealist painter Salvador Dali “ the largest collection outside of Europe. With over 96 paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures by the famous artist this museum is the number one attraction in St. Petersburg. Thursdays from 5-8 you can get into the museum for just $10/person.

2. Weeki Watchee Springs

Trained divers dressed as mermaids swim in a natural spring creating a fun, quirky show that can be viewed from a 500-seat amphitheater, 16 feet below the surface of the spring. Around since 1947, the show is a fun Florida staple, and only one of the many things to do at this park. Round out your visit with a riverboat cruise, a wildlife show, and a thrilling ride down the parks many waterslides. Entrance to the park is only $13/person.

3. Tampa Electric's Manatee Viewing Center

When the waters in Tampa Bay start to cool off, Manatees seek shelter in the discharge panel of the Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach, Florida. Open November 1 through April 15, the viewing center is free of charge for all visitors. Once you are able to pull your eyes away from the big beautiful creatures swimming through the panel, you can check out some of the other things this area has to offer including a mangrove exhibit, butterfly garden, and gift shop.

4. Armature Works

Formerly a storage and maintenance facility for Tampa Electric's streetcars, this building has been reimagined into Armature Works, a 22,000 square foot, mixed use market featuring a wide variety of restaurants, bar/lounges, and Heights Public Market. Armature features restored doors, exposed brick, refurbished steps, and hardwood floors made from the milled down roof original to the building. Look around, shop for a gift, and stop in one of several highly rated waterfront restaurants for a unique experience that doesn't have to break the budget.

5. Sunsets at Pier 60

364 days a year, two hours before until two hours after sunset, check out Sunsets at Pier 60 Festival on Clearwater Beach. Each night around sunset artisans, crafters, and street performers gather for a fun filled evening full of entertainment, perfect for the whole family. During the summer months bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy a free family movie at the Pier.
